Seton Medical Center Harker Heights to Partner with Freedom Urgent Care
Freedom Urgent Care and Seton Medical Center Harker Heights have announced plans to form a joint venture that expects to build a network of urgent care centers throughout the Central Texas area. The joint venture formation is expected to be completed by November 1, 2016. The existing Harker Heights Urgent Care Center, located at 300 W. Central Texas Expressway in Harker Heights, will become part of the new ownership structure, and plans are also underway for other locations. An announcement is expected soon regarding a new Urgent Care Center in the Killeen area.
According to Seton Medical Center Harker Heights CEO, Matt Maxfield, adding urgent care to the long list of services the hospital provides makes sense when you consider the community’s issues with access to care. He says, “There’s a shortage of Primary Care Physicians in this country. The Harker Heights – Killeen area is not immune to that shortage. When patients can’t get an appointment to see a physician, many end up in the emergency room for non-emergency conditions that cost exponentially more to treat in the ER than in an urgent care setting.” Maxfield goes on to say, “The objective of Freedom Urgent Care and Seton Medical Center’s Urgent Care centers will be to provide “convenient access to quality, cost-effective care.”
Freedom Urgent Care and Seton Medical Center Harker Heights do not view urgent care as a replacement for patients having a Primary Care Physician. Maxfield says, “Ideally, if someone walks into one of our urgent care centers without a PCP, we’ll be able to connect them with one before they leave. We are committed to having our urgent care centers serve as just one stop in a comprehensive, continuum of care.”
Ann Marie McKenna, founder and CEO of Freedom Urgent Care, said “This is a great opportunity, not only for us, but for our community. We expect this to be an easy transition. We have worked with Seton Medical Center Harker Heights for years – and worked well together.”
All Freedom Urgent Care and Seton Medical Center Harker Heights clinics will be accredited by the Urgent Care Association of America (UCAOA), the highest level of distinction for care delivered at urgent care centers. This assures the same commitment to excellent medical care patients have come to expect from Freedom Urgent Care and Seton Medical Center Harker Heights.
The urgent care clinics will offer walk-in care for minor illnesses and injuries. Conditions treated will include:
• Ear and eye infections
• Minor cuts that may need stitches
• Possible broken bones or simple fractures
• Minor skin infections
• Severe sore throat
• Sprains and strains
• Vomiting and diarrhea
