Patient Credits Primary Care Physician for Improved Health

Direct communication and a reliable network of experts – that’s what Rick Keagle, a longtime resident of Harker Heights, likes about his primary care physician, Dr. Dave Webster.

“Dr. Webster has been my PCP for nearly 29 years. If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't change anything,” said Keagle. “He's seen the good and bad me over the years, and he's done a great job managing my health.”

Keagle has struggled with his weight over the years, which caused back problems that required surgery. Other medical issues also appeared, but Dr. Webster helped him stay on the right track.

“I served in the Army for 20 years in a healthcare setting, so I understand physicians,” said Keagle. “Dr. Webster is a good listener and I've never seen him get excited. As other medical concerns arose, he’d say ‘we'll take care of these.’He also refers me to the right people at the right time to do the right thing.”

Dr. Webster is part of Wellstone Health Partners, which is affiliated with Seton Medical Center Harker Heights. Still, even with great physicians to work with, it’s up to the patient to take action and do the necessary things to improve their own health.

“If you weigh 350 pounds and a doctor is not going to call you fat, don't waste his time. Find one that will talk straight with you. I'm alive today because of Dr. Webster. When I got ‘heavy,’ he was direct and to the point: "Lose the weight." He then provided me with the tools to do so. He was also instrumental in getting me to stop smoking. I just turned 70 and have no doubt that I'll make it to 80 years old, thanks in part to Dr. Webster."

Keagle says he is in maintenance mode with his health and wants to continue to be healthy. “I just want to be able to continue to hold my grandchildren and enjoy what life I have. Dr Webster has made sure I can do that.”

“Life's made up of a lot of different things and I'm a fortunate guy.”
