HARKER HEIGHTS, TX – Seton Medical Center Harker Heights today announced that it is the first in the region to offer the VELYS Robotic-Assisted Solution, a state-of-the-art technology that simplifies total knee replacement surgery. The technology is designed to deliver efficiency and optimize patient outcomes. Seton Harker Heights is the only facility in the region offering this technology.
A total knee replacement is performed to fix the damaged parts of a knee with different types of implants. Most replacements are performed using methods that were first developed in the 1980s and involve drilling a hole in the femur and inserting a metal rod. Simple measuring tools are used to determine where to make the incision and cut.
Advanced orthopedic technologies like the VELYS Robotic-Assisted Solution helps surgeons perform knee replacement surgery tailored to the anatomy of each patient with digital precision and accuracy. Robot-assisted surgery removes the need for a metal rod in the femur and allows surgeons to use infrared cameras and optical trackers to make highly precise incisions and cuts. The robot also uses sensors to create an accurate digital copy of the patient’s knee, which allows the surgeon to better plan each surgery and track information in the joint. The robotic-assisted device helps in providing predictable results to improve outcomes, increase mobility and help with faster recovery for patients.
The VELYS Robotic-Assisted Solution works in tandem with the ATTUNE® Knee System, which is an innovative knee implant designed to work more closely with an individual patient’s anatomy. The ATTUNE Knee can help increase stability and reduce pain, providing better range of motion and preventing the unstable feeling some patients experience during everyday activities, such as bending and walking up and down stairs. With these systems together, there is now an option for patients who are seeking the latest technology designed to provide digital precision in knee replacement.
“We are excited to bring a high level of orthopedic innovation to the Central Texas area,” says Patrick Swindle, chief executive officer of Seton Medical Center Harker Heights. “The addition of the VELYS Robotic-Assisted Solution and the ATTUNE® Knee System are a reflection of our ongoing commitment to providing high-quality health care in our community, offering our total knee replacement surgery patients with a more personalized care experience.”
